Axelle Jorcin - Co-founder - People and the Sea

Today I am happy to speak with Axelle Jorcin, the co-founder of People and the Sea, an organisation dedicated to building a sustainable future for island communities in the Philippines. The organisation articulates its work around two interconnected topics: marine resources management and socio-economic development for communities.

Today I am happy to speak with Axelle Jorcin, the co-founder of People and the Sea, an organisation dedicated to building a sustainable future for island communities in the Philippines. The organisation articulates its work around two interconnected topics: marine resources management and socio-economic development for communities.

Axelle started out her career working for British Petroleum and later became Expedition Manager of Blue Ventures where she was responsible for managing operations of a remote research site in Madagascar. Here she worked with a team of local and international staff to run marine research projects and organise the training and participation of volunteers.

After leaving Madagascar, she dedicated a year to studying marine and coastal management issues. Her Masters course strengthened her understanding of topics such as stakeholder involvement and the linkages between environment, economy and social issues in relation to development. After seeing some of the world and diving in exciting spots, Axelle and her partner decided to set up People and the Sea in Malapascua in 2015.
