Yesmien Bagh Ali - business woman, activist, advocate, author
Today I am thrilled to be speaking with an extraordinary woman today- Yesmien Bagh Ali, a business woman, activist, advocate, and now children’s book author.
For over 25 years Yesmien has worked with communities and professional agencies to break down barriers to implement policy change for vulnerable people. She has served as an ambassador for various organisations such as the Independent Domestic Abuse Service, CrimeStoppers, Muslim Women Network UK, and many other organizations in the UK that advocate for the powerless. She has planned and facilitated numerous training programmes to prevent the abuse of women and girls and spoke at the 57th Commission on the Status of Women at the UN on Violence Against Women And Girls. As a divorced mother of four Yesmien created a culinary spice business and has appeared on TV cooking shows, radio, and social platforms about the challenges faced by British Asian women who are victims of forced marriage. Her workshops increasingly aim to encourage, empower and create opportunities for women to take on leadership roles.
Yesmien divides her free time between speaking on Black Lives Matter, culturally sensitive issues, writing scripts, acting, and walking in the Yorkshire Dales. She currently has a film in the early stages of production and gosh, I don’t know how she did it, but she also just authored a book, 'The Lonely Chapatti', which you can purchase directly from her website or on Amazon.
